Joe Camel was created in the 1950's in France by an unknown artist
working on a promotion for the brand in Europe involving T-shirts. As an idea to promote
Camel's 75th anniversary, the R.J. Reynolds U.S.A. marketing team, re-discovered Joe in the company's archives in the late 1980's. At that time, they
found that the Camel brand had a reputation for being an "old-man's cigarette." In an effort to shake that lable and to make the brand more attractive to contemporary or "hip" smokers,
Joe Camel became the mascot for the Camel brand from 1987 to 1997. Mired in controversy and heralded by fans worldwide Joe Camel memorabilia has become
highly sought after by collectors from around the world.
The Joe Camel collection represented here on JoeCamelZippo represents years of collecting
